Shortly after graduating from high school, Bob attended trade school for Iron Working. He began his grueling work in the iron industry bending rebar for large commercial building projects. He wondered where his future was going and saw that his friend Scott Chadwick was succeeding at his family owned car lot. Soon Bob began buying inexpensive cars and consigning these vehicles on Scott’s lot. After several trips to Scotts' lot, Bob met Rick Braun, a salesperson at Chadwick's. About a year later Bob and Rick started talking about opening their own car lot. They both agreed that with the knowledge they had obtained with the other car lot would bolster their chances of success. Both were raised in this community and wanted to keep their business in the same area as to provide a good place for locals to buy vehicles with the understanding that R&B would be around to support the sale for many years to come. Both Rick and Bob applied for and received a dealership license from the California DMV. They pooled all available funds and began the arduous work of opening a business as very young men. Their first step in opening R&B Auto Center, would be obtaining a decent lot. When they stumbled upon an abandoned pizza kitchen, they instantly bought it and soon had the doors of Rick Braun and Bob Delozier Auto Center, R&B, open for business. Bob was accustomed to seeing a strong work ethic as he was raised by his mother who worked at the local factories in Fontana. He was not afraid to work hard to succeed at the goals he was setting, and soon found himself working 12 hour days, 7 days a week. By this time, he was preforming many different tasks at the dealership. He answered phones, wrote contracts, found financing for clients and dealt with all customers from their first step on the lot to delivery of their new vehicle. There seemed to be a great need in this area for a trust worthy used car dealership and it wasn’t long before word spread and business increased quickly. Their 12 hour days soon became 16 hour days and they began hiring friends, recruited from high school, and family to help out around the dealership. They soon purchased an adjoining piece of property that had a small home on it. Bob moved into this house so that he could keep a watchful eye on their business. What had once been a pizza kitchen had grown too small. Bob decided growth of R&B had been so expedient it would be time to demolish the building for more display area. The dealership operations were moved into the house and it was converted for the business. During the next few years they acquired more bordering land that had a few small residential buildings. They rented these buildings to help offset some of the expenses of growth. In their late 20’s now, they were getting to a good place, they had trusted employees and word was spreading to surrounding areas. Sales kept growing; Bob soon began to look at expanding the dealership even further. He moved out of the house all together and the dealership took over the entire lot. They converted some of the rentals into small office spaces for local buildings. The two dirt and gravel lots were opened to house more vehicles to provide better selection for their customers. They were able to cut down on the hours spent at the dealership and concentrate on the running of the business and letting their employees handle the day to day details and operations. Bob met Jennifer Fanazzo and began dating. That relationship blossomed and they soon were married. In 1996 they had a child together, Walker. Bob began thinking of the dealership as a legacy for his child. He committed himself to partnering with business in the area. He soon was expanding the lot to house an even greater business for the local community. He partnered with Arrowhead Credit Union when he saw that their values of supporting their members and community were much the same as his. This partnership brought about even having a local branch on the dealership property for the convenience of Fontana residents to be able to bank at the same place they were buying and servicing their vehicles. They had the motto of treating everyone as family and giving the best value and putting those in need in reliable and affordable transportation. To this day Bob is a humble man who has not forgot his beginnings in this community. He has never forgotten who he is and where he came from. He has always given back to his community through charities such as Loma Linda Children’s Hospital, Veterans Hospital, donations to many school groups from the Inland Empire and scholarships to many of the local high schools, just to name a few. He knows how hard it is for young people just starting out in the world with families and careers and he still wants to be available for these people. During the 25 years in business many sales are from past customers and now past customers are bringing in their children to buy their first car from someone they can trust – R&B Auto Center. |
